    INTRO:

Who says *everything* has to be vintage, eh? This gorgeous, striking (and now discontinued) Portuguese vase was originally sold on made.com. Presented in a bottle form with two urn-style handles, and with a beautiful, rich glaze which transitions from warm ochre to deep, tangerine orange, this extremely eye-catching lamp would be a focal point in any room. In fact, paired with a very tall, conical shade, this could work as a brilliant floor lamp.

    A BIT OF HISTORY:

Very few of us haven't been made aware of made.com at this point.

Made is a brand based in London, that designs and retails homewares and furniture online, and across a network of experiential showrooms in Europe. The company was founded by serial entrepreneur Ning Li (CEO) and Brent Hoberman (Chairman), together with Julien Callède (COO) and Chloe Macintosh.

The company was born out of a very unique business model. Made does not own any of its factories, instead it commissions factories to meet its orders.

Made streamlines the furniture design and manufacture process, allowing it to take products from design to sale in as little as four months. Made release two new collections a week. The company minimises overheads by selling online, grouping orders of the same item, not owning its factories and building close working relationships with factories and designers. Its website showcases furniture designs and encourages people to vote for their favourite. Crowd-sourced designs go into production and people who voted can go on to purchase them should they reach production. Orders are then placed directly with the manufacturer for mass production. Once produced, these orders are shipped and then dispatched to customers.

Made collaborates with a number of designers including Steuart Padwick, Busetti Garuti Redaelli, James Harrison, Nina Campbell, Ian Archer, Philip Colbert, Ilaria Marelli, Genevieve Bennett, John Stefanidis and Alison Cork. In 2013, Made partnered with the Design Museum in a competition to design two-seater sofa as part of its 'Future Is Here' exhibition. The winning entry was put into production.

    CONDITION:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the vase is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips, restorations or scratches to spoil the stunning glaze.

    ---------------

    THE TECHNICAL BIT:

SUNSET has been adapted from a vase to a table lamp, and now features a new, high quality, machine milled E27/ES screw brass lamp holder, extended slightly from the base to ensure maximum visibility once a lampshade is added.

It has been wired with luxurious quality 3-core fabric covered cable in a fantastic black and white herringbone pattern, featuring a high quality white inline rocker switch 20cm from the lamp base (with another 1.5m from the switch to the matching white UK 3-pin plug). An internal cord grip keeps the cable sturdily in place. The metal lamp holder is earthed, and the lamp has been thoroughly PAT tested and approved (with a sticker affixed near the plug to show the PASS status). Components comprise of a British-made and certified lamp holder and plug, and Italian-made cable and switch, which have passed or exceeded relevant CE and EU electrical integrity tests.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can your lamps be customised for my country?

Yes, absolutely! I ship worldwide, and I've already serviced many international orders. My lamps are fitted with either E14/SES or E27/ES lamp holders (which are usable with bulbs sold all over the world) and UK 3-pin plugs, but these can be swapped out to US E26/E12 Candelabra fittings on request for a small additional fee. A plug corresponding to your country will be added, and, if necessary, an inline on/off switch.

Once converted, I will then test the lamps on a transformer and re-certify via an additional PAT test.

Please get in touch for more information regarding a quote for the conversion.

    Are your lamps safe?

Extremely! Each of my lamps is painstakingly assembled (I have a long history of competency with electrical wiring), and subsequently certified. I am PAT qualified and accredited. Moreover, all of my lamps use 3-core cable to ensure a proper, safe earthing conduit.

Please feel free to message me with any other questions.

Can you make custom lamps? What if I provided you with a vase or bottle?

One of the biggest joys of this whole endeavour so far for me has been problem solving each individual lamp I make.

If you've got a vase, bottle (or other item!) lying around you'd like to see turned into a lamp, please do get in touch with me! I'd be more than happy to discuss with you your ideas and how we could best achieve them.

Where did the names of your lamps come from?

All the lamps I make (either individual or a series) originally were named after all the dog siblings I've had in the family over the years, or pups I've known over the years. As my collection has grown, I've started to use character names from my favourite films and TV shows.

What happens if my order arrives damaged or broken?

I'm extremely conscientious about packaging. In the unlikely event your order is damaged in transit and arrives to you broken, please immediately photograph both the packaging and the lamp istelf. Please then forward the images within 24 hours to tom@lumenowl.co.uk, and I will then assess and resolve the situation for you.

Can you repair or rewire an old lamp I have?

Yes, absolutely! I've already done this a couple of times. I can remove aged lamp holders, wiring and switches and replace with brand new variants. Once complete, I will exhaustively test and certify via a PAT test.

Please drop me a message if you have any questions about this service, or would like a quote.
