Hello, and thanks for stopping by lumenowl!

    ---------------

    INTRO:

An absolute design classic, this stunning FARO (Italian for 'Lighthouse') table lamp from Italian design powerhouse Harvey Guzzini absolutely oozes retro charm, yet somehow would fit into a modern interior as if it had always been there. Constructed of chromed iron and featuring a large, domed bright orange acrylic shade (which can rise and fall up the central chrome tubing), this beautiful lamp has been fully restored electrically to bring it in line with 21st century safety standards. Fit the lamp with a pair of E14 smart bulbs and you've got a fabulously versatile statement lamp.

The lamp's striking aesthetics has meant it has found its way into a number of high-profile film and TV productions. Scroll through the images and see the lamp in Roger Moore's second Bond film "THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN" from 1974, and the same orange version in 2022's 'HELLRAISER' reboot.

    ---------------

    A BIT OF HISTORY:

iGuzzini illuminazione was established in June 1958 by Raimondo Guzzini (born 1928) under the name Harvey. Harvey is derived from the famous movie ‘Harvey’ with James Stuart and the invisible rabbit Harvey from 1950. The initial production of enamelled copper objects was supplemented by decorative luminaires. In the early sixties it became a family business when his five brothers joined the company.

In 1962, Luigi Massoni was attracted to lead the design team. He worked for Fratelli Guzzini and Harvey Guzzini until 1976. Luigi Massoni designed many iconic lamps in that period.

The company still exists and changed the name in 1974 into iGuzzini and in 1981 to iGuzzini illuminazione.

The FARO lamp series was produced between 1970 and 1981.

    CONDITION:

The lamp is in beautiful vintage condition. The rise and fall components have been strengthened and repaired, and the chromed sections have been gently polished back to a radiant shine. Some pitting still remains, but this simply adds to the vintage charm. The beautifully bright acrylic shade has been thoroughly washed and cleaned, and shines up as if brand new. Happily, there are no cracks to spoil the groovy aesthetic, just a few mild surface-level scratches.

    ---------------

    THE TECHNICAL BIT:

FARO has been fully restored electrically, bringing it safely in line with 21st century safety standards.

The twin Bakelite B15 lamp holders (which were corroded and seriously limited the lamps usability throughout the world) have been removed, and installed in their place are a pair of matching chrome E14/SES versions, subtly matched to the metal frame and ensuring the lamp can now be used throughout the world.

FARO has been rewired with fabulous matching orange 3-core twist-braided cable, featuring a high quality white inline rocker switch 25cm from the lamp base (and a further 2m to the matching white UK 3-pin plug). A newly added internal cord grip keeps the cable sturdily and safely in place. The metal lamp holders are fully earthed, and FARO has been thoroughly PAT tested and approved (with a sticker affixed near the plug to show the PASS status). Components comprise of British-made and certified lamp holders, plug, cable and an Italian-made switch, which has passed or exceeded relevant CE and EU electrical integrity tests.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can your lamps be customised for my country?

Yes, absolutely! I ship worldwide, and I've already serviced many international orders. My lamps are fitted with either E14/SES or E27/ES lamp holders (which are usable with bulbs sold all over the world) and UK 3-pin plugs, but these can be swapped out to US E26/E12 Candelabra fittings on request for a small additional fee. A plug corresponding to your country will be added, and, if necessary, an inline on/off switch.

Once converted, I will then test the lamps on a transformer and re-certify via an additional PAT test.

Please get in touch for more information regarding a quote for the conversion.

    Are your lamps safe?

Extremely! Each of my lamps is painstakingly assembled (I have a long history of competency with electrical wiring), and subsequently certified. I am PAT qualified and accredited. Moreover, all of my lamps use 3-core cable to ensure a proper, safe earthing conduit.

Please feel free to message me with any other questions.

Can you make custom lamps? What if I provided you with a vase or bottle?

One of the biggest joys of this whole endeavour so far for me has been problem solving each individual lamp I make.

If you've got a vase, bottle (or other item!) lying around you'd like to see turned into a lamp, please do get in touch with me! I'd be more than happy to discuss with you your ideas and how we could best achieve them.

Where did the names of your lamps come from?

All the lamps I make (either individual or a series) originally were named after all the dog siblings I've had in the family over the years, or pups I've known over the years. As my collection has grown, I've started to use character names from my favourite films and TV shows.

What happens if my order arrives damaged or broken?

I'm extremely conscientious about packaging. In the unlikely event your order is damaged in transit and arrives to you broken, please immediately photograph both the packaging and the lamp istelf. Please then forward the images within 24 hours to tom@lumenowl.co.uk, and I will then assess and resolve the situation for you.

Can you repair or rewire an old lamp I have?

Yes, absolutely! I've already done this a couple of times. I can remove aged lamp holders, wiring and switches and replace with brand new variants. Once complete, I will exhaustively test and certify via a PAT test.

Please drop me a message if you have any questions about this service, or would like a quote.
